3 Things to Check Before You Wear It. We Would Rather Print Them Than Be Asked.

Occlusion over a potent steroid increases how much is absorbed. That is the most important sentence on this page, so it comes first.

Occlusion over a potent topical steroid increases how much of it is absorbed into the body.

That is not a footnote. It is the most important sentence here, so it comes before anything else.

1. Not over a prescription steroid

A plain white prescription style tube with no readable text lying on a pale grey surface beside a closed notebook and a pen

Unless your doctor has cleared it.

Covering skin makes its outer layer hold more water, and well hydrated skin lets more of whatever is on it pass through. With an emollient, that is the whole point. With a steroid, it means more of the drug reaching deeper and further than the dose was planned for. Clinicians sometimes cover a steroid deliberately, for a short time, under supervision. It should never happen by accident because a sock went on afterwards.

2. Not over broken, weeping or infected skin

A small closed white first aid box on a pale grey surface beside a folded clean white cloth

And the spaces between the toes stay dry.

Broken skin needs air, cleanliness and often a clinician's eye. Holding moisture against it is the wrong move. Between the toes, the skin is thin and already damp, and holding more moisture there softens it until it breaks down.

3. Patch test first

A single Day Sock on a folded white towel beside a white kitchen timer, on a pale grey surface

One sock, one hour, intact skin.

Wear one sock on one foot, for an hour, on skin that is not broken, without emollient first. Then look. It is the same careful first step you would take with any new product against reactive skin, and it costs one pair to find out.

What is left is simple

Two socks turned inside out on white card, side by side: an ordinary cotton sock with a pale patch of emollient soaked through the sole, and a Solen Base…

It is a closed toe sock with a continuous bonded inner face. Nothing is infused into it and the material list is on the product page. It holds your emollient against the skin for longer than cotton can.
