Old Me, New Me: 5 Things That Changed When I Swapped One Layer

Old Me, New Me: 5 Things That Changed When I Swapped One Layer

Old me: cream at night, cotton sock, cling film when organised. New me: cream on at seven, one sock, out the door.

Old me: cream at night, cotton sock over it, cling film when I was feeling organised. Wake up, turn the sock inside out, find the cream in the sock.

New me: cream on at seven, one sock, out the door.

Swap the sock, keep the cream

Visibly softer heels in fourteen nights, or keep everything and we refund you in full.

1. The cream moved from the sock back to the heel

Two socks turned inside out on a white bedspread in morning light: a pale cotton sock with a large grey greasy patch at the heel, and a Solen Base Day Sock…

The Day Sock has a bonded inner face that does not soak anything up.

Old me thought the cream was sinking in overnight. It was sinking into the sock. Cotton pulls moisture off skin, cream included, and the grey patch in the morning was the proof I kept throwing in the wash. With a silicone face between the cream and the knit, the cream has nowhere to go but the heel.

2. The routine moved from bedtime to getting dressed

A bedroom in the morning: a dressing table with a mug of coffee, a hairbrush, a plain white tube and a Solen Base Day Sock folded beside a pair of court…

One step, done with everything else.

Old me did feet at eleven at night when I was already tired, so on half the nights I did not. New me does it while the kettle boils, because I am putting socks on anyway. Nothing to remember.

3. The cling film went back in the kitchen

A kitchen drawer pulled open showing a roll of cling film, a roll of foil and a box of freezer bags in their ordinary places, nothing to do with feet

Back to covering leftovers.

The cling film trick worked because plastic is a seal: it stops the sock drinking the cream. But it rustled, slid down and made my feet hot, and it could never come to work. The Day Sock does the same job as the film, built into the sock.

4. The special bed socks went in the bin

A kitchen pedal bin with its lid open and two pairs of pale cotton bed socks with greasy grey heels dropped inside

It washes at 40 with the rest of the laundry.

No more pair kept only for bed because nobody wants cream socks in with the good wash. The Day Sock goes in its mesh bag with everything else.

5. The tube stayed the same

A bathroom shelf in morning light with a single plain white squeeze tube on it, half used, and a Solen Base Day Sock folded next to it

Same cream I already owned. The difference is one layer.

I did not need a stronger tube, a new active or a clinic. I needed the cream to still be on my heel at lunchtime.

How it works

  1. Cream on at seven.
  2. Day Sock on, shoes on.
  3. Off at six.
