6 Reasons Women With the Softest Heels Stopped Doing Their Feet at Night

6 Reasons Women With the Softest Heels Stopped Doing Their Feet at Night

Night is eight hours on paper and twenty minutes in practice. The Day Sock moves your usual cream into the working day, under your shoes, where nothing can take it.

Everyone has told you the same thing. Cream at bedtime, sock on, let it work overnight.

And it never quite does. Because by the time you are asleep the sheet and the sock have had most of it, and then you spend the next morning barefoot on a hard kitchen floor with heels that feel like they were never touched.

So do it the other way round.

1. The bed was always the worst place to do this

Think about what a heel does at night. It rests on a cotton sheet. It moves under a cotton duvet. It turns over, rubs, slides, and kicks the covers off at three in the morning. If there is a cotton sock on it, that is a third absorbent fabric pressed against the cream for eight hours.

Three fabrics all pulling the cream off you at once. It is not a surprise the sheet ends up with a grey patch and the heel ends up dry. The bed was never a good place for this. It was just the only time anyone could think of.

Moving the routine to the morning takes all three out of the way.

2. A working day is the longest contact you will ever get

A kitchen wall clock at seven in the morning above a worktop with a boiling kettle, a mug of tea, a plain white tube with its cap off and a Solen Base Day…

Every cream for hard skin works the same basic way. It needs to sit on the skin long enough to draw water into the outer layer and keep it there. Hard skin behaves like a dry sponge: stiff and brittle when it is dry, soft and flexible when it holds water. The longer the cream stays on, the longer the skin has to take it up.

So the question that decides everything is not how strong the cream is. It is how many hours it stays in contact.

Seven till six is a full working day on your feet in shoes. With the Day Sock over the cream there is nothing absorbent pulling it off, and nothing rubbing it onto a sheet. That is more time on the skin than a bedtime routine ever really gave your cream.

3. Nobody can tell you are wearing it

A supermarket aisle at lunchtime, shot low

A closed toe. A thin grey crew knit. A cuff that sits under a trouser leg the way any sock does. It goes into work shoes, trainers, ankle boots, the lot.

That matters, because a routine you have to hide is a routine you stop doing. Nobody at work sees a thing. Nobody on the school run knows. There is no plastic, no gel bootie, no rustle. It looks like a sock because it is one.

4. The coating holds it, the knit stays dry

The Day Sock turned half inside out on a pale linen surface, the bonded silicone footbed peeled back over the cuff so both faces are visible at once: the…

Bonded silicone runs across the whole footbed and heel on the inside. The cream sits against the skin on one side of it. The knit sits on the other side, dry.

That is why the sock does not feel greasy inside your shoe, and why the shoe does not end up with a dark patch in the insole after a fortnight. The coating holds the cream in place and keeps it on your heel.

5. Nothing added, nothing to think about

Plenty of heel socks come infused with oils, shea or fragrance, and all of it washes out within a few weeks anyway. Then you are left wearing a plain sock that was sold to you as a treatment.

The Day Sock has nothing infused in it. It is fragrance free, with no oil or botanical in the fabric. It holds your cream, the one you already know your skin gets on with, and it does nothing else. There is nothing on the label to wonder about and nothing to run out.

6. The other eight hours are covered too

For the evenings you want both, the £55 set comes with the Night Sleeve free. It is an open toe sleeve that goes over the heel at bedtime, so the toes stay out and the foot does not overheat under the duvet.

The Day Sock does the long shift. The sleeve covers the evening. Neither one asks you to wrap anything in plastic.

How it works

  1. Cream on, Day Sock on, while the kettle boils.
  2. School run, commute, shift, supermarket. Nothing to do.
  3. Off at six, mesh bag, machine wash at 40.
