6 Reasons the Cream in Your Cupboard Was Never the Problem

6 Reasons the Cream in Your Cupboard Was Never the Problem

Bring your own tube. The Solen Base Day Sock is the part that holds it there, all day, under your shoes.

You have not run out of creams to try. You have run out of faith in them.

Here is the part nobody in the foot care aisle wants to say: the cheap tube was probably fine.

1. Urea works, and it has for decades

A pharmacy style shelf photographed at home: a row of plain unbranded white squeeze tubes and tubs of different sizes and prices on a wooden bathroom shelf,…

Urea is one of the oldest ingredients in foot care, and it is in almost every heel cream on the shelf for a good reason. It does two jobs. It draws water into the outer layer of skin and holds it there. And at higher strengths it loosens the bonds between the flattened dead cells that make hard skin so rigid.

The £5 tube and the £30 tube do this the same way. The chemistry was never the missing piece, which is why a stronger tube never quite delivered the difference the percentage on the front promised.

2. What no cream can do is stay where you put it

The inside of a pale cotton sock turned inside out on a bathroom floor mat in morning light, a large grey greasy patch across the heel where cream has…

Both of those jobs take time. Water moves into thick heel skin slowly, and the looser, softer layer only builds up while the cream is still sitting there. Take the cream away after twenty minutes and you get twenty minutes of result.

And every cream on the shelf has the same weakness. It sits on the skin until something absorbent comes along. A sock always comes along. So does the carpet, the sheet and the slipper.

3. You have been running the same test with the same gap

A row of five plain white squeeze tubes of increasing size on a pale windowsill, left to right, and in front of each one, identical, a crumpled pale cotton sock

New cream, same cotton sock, same result. Then a new cream again, a stronger one this time, over the same sock. The one thing that never changed in years of trying was what went on over it.

If you ran it as an experiment you would spot the problem immediately. Every single trial had the same flaw built in, and every single time the cream got the blame.

4. This is not another cream, and it is not a treatment

The Day Sock laid flat and square on warm linen, photographed from directly above, next to a plain white tube of cream with the cap on

Bonded silicone across the footbed and heel. A barrier, nothing more. It keeps what you put on at seven sitting on your skin at six, because the inner face does not absorb anything.

The cream does the work. The sock just stops it being taken away.

  • Nothing to learn.
  • Nothing new to react to.
  • Nothing extra to buy.

5. There is nothing to top up

A kitchen table with a smartphone lying face down, a mug of tea and an opened brown envelope with a plain folded paper inside, no readable text

We do not sell cream, so we have nothing to upsell you into. There is no refill, no monthly box, no subscription anywhere on the site.

You pay once for the socks and keep using the tube in your cupboard. When that runs out, you buy the one you already like, from wherever you already buy it.

6. Your drawer gets smaller, not bigger

An open bathroom drawer photographed from above, half empty for once: one plain white tube, a nail file and a hair tie

One garment and the tube you already own. That is the whole kit.

No second tube for the bad weeks, no peel for before a holiday, no file for when it gets out of hand. The drawer stops being a record of things that almost worked.

How it works

  1. The cream you already have, on your heels in the morning.
  2. The Day Sock on over it. Shoes on.
  3. Off at six. Wash at 40 in the mesh bag.

Proof we can show you

The Sock Test: same cream on both heels, cotton on one foot, Day Sock on the other, check at lunchtime. The cream did not change. Only the sock did.
