4 Ways This Is Not the Sock You Already Own (Including the One That Is a Limit)

4 Ways This Is Not the Sock You Already Own (Including the One That Is a Limit)

Fair question. It looks like a sock. Three construction facts and one printed limit make it a different object.

Fair question. It looks like a sock.

It is a sock. Here are the four things that make it a different one, including the one most brands would leave out.

1. Bonded silicone across the whole footbed

Two socks laid side by side on warm linen, both turned inside out, shot square from above: on the left an ordinary thin grey cotton sock showing plain knit…

Not a gel pad glued to the heel. That design peels off in the drum after a month and fills other brands' review pages.

Turn your own sock inside out and you will see knit, which is a web of fibres built to soak up moisture. Turn the Day Sock inside out and the whole footbed and heel is a smooth bonded face that soaks up nothing. From the outside they look the same. From the inside, one of them drinks your cream and one of them holds it on the skin.

2. A closed toe

The Day Sock laid beside an open toe heel sleeve on a wooden bedroom floor, the difference in the toe clearly visible, a pair of work shoes in the background

So it goes under a work shoe and does its job through the day, instead of being a bedroom item.

That is the difference between a product you use when you remember and a sock you put on every morning because you were getting dressed anyway.

3. A stated wear window

A pair of tan leather court shoes on a hallway floor with a Solen Base Day Sock tucked into one of them, beside a wall clock showing a soft, unreadable face

Trapping heat inside a closed shoe for long stretches is something foot guidance warns about, so the wear window is printed on the pack.

Covered skin holds moisture, which is the point, but skin covered for too long in a warm shoe can go soft and white and start to break down. So the Day Sock is for the working day, on in the morning and off in the evening, not round the clock and not overnight on top of a day's wear. We would rather tell you the limit than have you find it.

4. A working life, printed

A Day Sock that has clearly been worn and washed many times, lying beside the mesh wash bag on a laundry room shelf, a little faded but intact

Three to six months of daily wear. It is a textile and it wears out. We would rather tell you now.

Washed after every wear, at 40, in the mesh bag, it keeps its coating for months. It is not a forever product and we are not going to pretend it is.

How it works

  1. Cream on in the morning.
  2. Day Sock over it, shoes on.
  3. Off at six. Wash at 40 in the mesh bag.
